Gold Coast Real Estate Market Set to Pick Up After Comm Games

NEW data shows over 14,000 homes across Brisbane and the Gold Coast were put up for short-term rental during the Commonwealth Games, generating millions across the suburbs — but that’s now a double-edged sword.

NEW data shows over 14,000 homes across Brisbane and the Gold Coast were put up for short-term rental during the Commonwealth Games, generating millions across the suburbs.

But experts fear the surge could eventually impact property prices and rental availability with the Gold Coast already seeing a massive 3.49 per cent of all dwellings in short term rental — higher than all the capitals.

The biggest surge came out of Carrara which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies — where the number of listed properties more than doubled in the last three months. Ashmore saw a 70 per cent rise in homes put up for short term rent followed by Benowa (up 66 per cent) and Labrador (up 60.87 per cent).
