Vending machines are awesome. They’re convenient. They’re easy. Basically, they’re food, drink and unnecessary necessity ATMs. You put the monies in. You get the water/ coke zero/ bounty bar/ doritos/ Havianas/ lip gloss/ DVDs/ Apple accessories/ All Real Food Salads out.

We recognise the hand-out appliance as being rather utilitarian despite dispensing skittles and rockstars alike, but in 2017 on the GC, the vending machine has welcomed one helluva makeover. Now, you can add genuine French champagne to the vending mix, with The Star Gold Coast’s Garden Kitchen & Bar presenting the first Moët & Chandon Imperial vending machine in Australia. That’s 495 teeny luxury bottles of French champagne gold ready for showers, spraying and any other over the top celebratory behaviour. Or even just casually sophisticated quaffing #imaginethat

Moët & Chandon first approached K6 | Design Group in 2013 to design a very special vending machine. The brief was for limited edition mini bottles of champagne studded with Swarovski crystals exclusive to Selfridge and its Destination Christmas Floor. The result: a Moët & Chandon ATM sweeping the civilised world from London to Milan and Las Vegas, then finally reach the Gold Coast some four years later.

From Gardens Kitchen & Bar, you hand across your $29 plus tip, they hand you a momento-worthy gold token to insert into the machine where a golden automated arm delivers your 200ml piccolo; stylishly replete with gold sipper atop the bottle. It ideally turns the piccolo best-as-a drink-for-one into a potential-pourer-for-two. Mo’ money, Mo’wett. Cos we all like sharing right #no.

Was this part of the vision that Épernay wine trader Claude Moët had in mind when he first began shipping his champagne to Paris? We’re going to say yes. We’re hoping Claude’s vision includes a Magnum ATM coming our way too – would come in especially handy for Melbourne Cup.

A French Santé and an Australian Cheers. The Gold Coast welcomes Australia’s first champagne vending machine.
